Aloha Friday: Punctual Post Planning
You may have noticed something amiss with TechyDad.com this week. I tend to post every weekday and yet there were no posts on Tuesday or Thursday. What happened? I tend to write posts, at most, the day before they go live. Many times, I’ll finish up the post and hit Publish right then and there.
On Monday, JSL got sick. He had been coughing for awhile, but the cough was getting worse. B took him to the doctor, afraid he had caught my strep throat. They put him on an antibiotic, but that didn’t seem to help. That night, he developed a fever and threw up. The night was very rough with him waking up multiple times coughing so much that he could hardly breathe. Eventually, he came into our bed. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep and writing a blog post was not a high priority. Tuesday was busy at work. By that night, I figured I would just work on my Wednesday blog post and skip Tuesday.
Wednesday night, I should have worked on a blog post, but was too tired. Thursday saw some heater issues. (Heat went out. Pilot light wouldn’t stay lit and a professional eventually had to be called when it proved too much for me.) So, by Thursday night, I decided to write this Friday post instead.

I’ll usually sit down and write a post for the following day, scheduling it to go live at midnight. I often wish I would write down things that happen that would make a great post – but by the time I sit down to write, it’s evaporated from my brain. 😉
Poor JSL! Hope all the sickness is gone from your house soon – and hopefully your heat issues are all ‘professionally’ fixed…we had a recent bout with our furnace conking out on us, too. Not fun having no heat during really cold weather! 🙂

Most of the time I write my posts within 1-2 days before I publish. Lately, I’ve been suffering from writer’s block and haven’t been posting very much.

Well, I mix it up. Sometimes I will write one earlier in the week, That is so I will not forget the question I want to ask. then I program it to post at 1205am. Now sometimes like today I post in the morning. That is when a wake up with the question in my head.,lol. Oh I must be bad, friday’s dream is a question to be asked,lol.

IT depends on the post! Usually they are all in my head and write them the day I want to publish them. I don’t keep a blogging schedule.

People write blog posts in advance??? j/k But seriously, I am lucky to get one out on the day. I rarely write them in advance. Maybe I can get better about that this year!

i usually publish as soon as I write, but if there’s a friend’s birthday coming up, I’ll do the happy birthday post a few days earlier so I know it’s there!

I hope JSL is feeling better and that things are settling down for you — sounds like it was a rough week!
I’m trying to be better about planning ahead a bit for my posts so that I don’t feel so pressured — we’ll see how well that goes and how long it lasts though 🙂

I’m with Harriet. I think for Memes I normally do them ahead and then set the time. Everything else is really spur of the moment and publish.

I usually just publish my posts as soon as I write them. Occasionally if I get on a roll and write several in one day, I will set them up to spread out a bit, though.
