Aloha Friday: Ten Years With My Angel
Ten years ago tomorrow, I was just getting back from Rosh Hashana services. I wasn’t tired enough to go to sleep, so I decided to log onto Yahoo Chat and talk with a few people. Little did I know that B was in the same chat room. Actually, B didn’t even know she was in the same chat room. She thought that the window was closed. When she saw it was open, and that I was signed in, she checked my profile. A change I made a few weeks back – adding the text “Nice Jewish Boy looking for Nice Jewish Girl” – led B to contact me. Right from our initial chatting, we clicked. I didn’t know at the time that I would fall in love and marry her, but I definitely knew that there was something special about this “Angel Forever.”
My Aloha Friday question is: Have you ever met anyone in person that you had first met online? Do you feel that meeting people online lets you get to know them better than meeting them in person?

I just got back from a blogging event so yes LOL! Everyone there I meet online first. Other then that no. My husbands best friend just married a girl he met on Match.com though

I have, but I don’t think that online really allows you to get to know people. There is alot to be said about face to face communication. Body language, awkward pauses, etc… you don’t get to see all that online.

Yes, I met my best friend online! She loves everything Hawaii and teaches hula out of her studio home! We go out to lunch regularly as well as parties, hula shows etc!

I have never met anyone romantically online, but know of three couples who have met that way, and all have been together for several years. Since I’ve never met anyone I know online in person, I can’t answer part 2 of your question!

I met my best friend online about 14 years ago. We did not get to finally meet in person until I moved geographically closer. We still speak more on the phone then online. 😉

Aside from you (EWWW!) I have met a few people from my mommy group that is local and not. We also just met two people that we knew on Twitter first. I can not wait until we go to BlogHer ’10 and meet a lot more people 🙂

No, I haven’t – but I can understand how you could know someone better through conversing online first. It seems to remove a lot of the social restraints we feel, including the time it takes to get to know someone. My husband and I wrote letters while he was living abroad before we dated, and I kind of miss that. It’s a different kind of interaction.
